Stem & Sentinel Exhibition - Jordi Alfaro & Siobhan Humston
SOPA FINE ARTS
Tues – Sat 11– 5 Sun – 12 – 4
Sopa Fine Arts is pleased to announce that our exciting new ‘Stem & Sentinel’ exhibition, with Jordi Alfaro and Siobhan Humston will be on view May 3rd through June 5, 2007.
This exhibition, ‘Stem & Sentinel’ is a pairing of highly organic ceramic sculpture with acrylic, graphite paintings. The use of orbital shapes, smooth forms that subtly emulate a human presence combine intense colours with natural tones that transform the gallery into a space of earthly abstractions.
Jordi Alfaro is a Spanish artist who has exhibited throughout North America and lectured as an invited artist at several Universities in North America. His long practice of collaboration in public artwork includes projects in Spain and Egypt.
Blending traditional techniques with contemporary concepts, Alfaro works primarily with ceramic materials, creating sculptures that are non-representational, abstract, and organic in form. His work references primitive adobe architecture, the human body, and weathered stone.
Siobhan Humston lives and works in her studio in Vancouver, where she combines her visual arts practice of painting and installation sculpture with music and writing. She has exhibited in over fifty solo and group shows in Canada and Europe.
The most recent body of work from Jordi Alfaro and Siobhan Humston come as a gathering of ideas surrounding the process of painting and involves an aesthetic balance between positive & negative space, drawing with graphite & painting with acrylic, gravity & floating, motion & stillness. They are partially about place and partially about the journey to that place.
Please join us May 3 rd from 7-9 pm for the opening night celebration where the artists will be in attendance.
